The greatest among you will be your servant.  For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

The servant leader is a popular term these days emphasizing the leader’s role as steward of resources.  It encourages leaders to serve others while staying focused on achieving results in line with our values and integrity.  Although the term is typically mentioned in a business world concept, it parallels biblical concepts and also applies to families – mini organizations themselves.

 As husbands and fathers, we are charged with the leadership of our family.  How better to lead than to emulate the one who said: “The greatest among you will be your servant” (Matt 23:11).  We can be the servant leaders of our family by understanding the key aspects of stewardship, serving others, staying focused, and achieving results. 

 By ensuring that our family has the authority and resources needed to achieve results in our Christian lives, we ensure their success, our success, and by extension the success of the entire family organization.  Everybody wins.  Everybody is happy.  God is glorified and the world is blessed.
